WHO/WHY YOU'VE SEEN BETTER

We are here to remind you that you don’t need to be the best to be creative. Just enjoy the process and embrace imperfection.

We don't agree with labeling creative work as "good" or "bad". Good according to whom? Bad in your opinion, but what about in theirs?

We are all born with a creative force within us, but somewhere along the journey, the need to create something "good", or "as good as someone else's work", makes us believe that we have nothing to share.

But art is subjective. There will always be something 'better,' more 'creative,' more 'original,' or more 'beautiful.'

By accepting this subjectivity and letting go of the need to be the "best," we want to inspire you to find the courage to reconnect with your authentic self and the creative force that lives within you.

How You've Seen Better was founded

As a kid, like most of us, I was deeply connected with my creativity. I used to draw, dance, make up stories, and freely share my ideas. I wasn't afraid to see the world in my own way and express myself.

Writing has always been a significant part of my life; it was the first tool I encountered to navigate my emotions and understand the world around me. I taught myself to write even before going to school, and started journaling at 13 years old. By the time I was 15, I had also taught myself web design and video editing, and had so much fun making designs and expressing my creativity.

During my college years, I joined the tech world and worked for various tech companies for almost 10 years. I stopped exploring my creative side, not because the tech world prevents you to do so, but because my only focus was to climb the corporate ladder.

Until a powerful feeling began to well up within me, as if something inside had been suppressed and was now eager to come out.

So, in 2018, I sat down at my desk in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and started writing, my usual way of dealing with unclear emotions. I let the words flow until I felt that I had expressed all my feelings.

After a few hours, I read through everything I had written, and the message became crystal clear. I needed to create. "But what?" "How?" "There are probably who are better."

– It doesn't matter. You can create on any surface you find.
– There will always be something or someone "better."
– Just create. It's that simple.

With that message in mind, I didn't have a clear plan, but I was ready to open myself up to experimentation and creation once more. The next day, I grabbed a plain white t-shirt and started scribbling on it with a marker. That's how You've Seen Better came to life.

Letting go of the need to be the "best" is challenging, but it's a daily exercise that gives me the courage to create and connect with my authentic self. And I want to inspire you to do the same.

At You've Seen Better, we express our ideas and reflections through our clothes, while sharing our creative process and talking about obstacles that prevent people from creating.

Whether you're "artistic" or not, to live a creative life is to live an authentic life. I invite you to join us in this journey and enjoy the process.
